2024 Emmys host poll: Who do YOU want to serve as ABC’s ceremony ringleader?
The 2024 Emmy Awards are scheduled for Sunday, September 15 on ABC, continuing the tradition of switching between the Big Four networks (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC). A master of ceremonies has yet to be named by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, so now is the perfect time to predict who might be tapped to emcee. (See the list of recent hosts.) Remember, someone will likely be chosen from within the Walt Disney family, which means folks like Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers are out. Read through some of our suggestions below and then be sure to have YOUR say by voting in our 2024 Emmys host poll.
Not surprisingly, ABC’s own late night star Jimmy Kimmel was the alphabet network’s choice to host the last three times it aired the Emmy broadcast (2012, ’16 and ’20). The 2020 ceremony was notable in that it was a mostly virtual ceremony brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Will Kimmel want to make it four in a row for ABC this year? That would actually match the number of times he’s now presided over the Oscars (2017, ’18, ’23 and ’24).
ABC has a cavalcade of reality competition and game show hosts that would all be perfect for the Emmy stage, including Ryan Seacrest (“American Idol”), Steve Harvey (“Judge Steve Harvey”), Elizabeth Banks (“Press Your Luck”) and Michael Strahan (“The $100,000 Pyramid”). Seacrest has emceed the Emmys twice before — first as a solo gig (2007 on Fox) and later alongside his fellow reality host nominees (2008 on ABC) — so he’s already got the experience.
Might the academy choose to go with a red-hot comedian who’s not necessarily affiliated with the ABC network? If so, here are some names to consider: John Mulaney (he got big laughs presenting at the 2024 Oscars and he’s a guest star on the Disney-owned “The Bear”), Wanda Sykes (she co-hosted the 2022 Oscar ceremony), Chris Rock (he’s still on a career high after that infamous slap) and Kevin Hart (he’s one of the biggest celebs on the planet).
Finally, I’d like to suggest a wild card in Angela Bassett. Not only did her procedural crime drama “9-1-1” make the move from Fox to ABC this year, but she’s also the narrator/producer of “Queens” on Nat Geo, which is owned by Disney. The beloved actress recently received an Honorary Oscar for her work inspiring audiences around the world, so what better way for the Emmys to “get their groove back” than by hiring Bassett as their ringleader?
