GOP senator wants all Trump criminal charges dropped so country can 'heal' after shooting

Late Saturday, after former president Donald Trump was left bleeding after being hit by flying glass after being shot at during a rally in Pennsylvania, far-right Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) issued a rapid statement demanding that any and all criminal charges filed against former president should be dropped for the good of the country.

With Trump reportedly okay after suffering a wound to his right ear, Lee — one of the former president's most ardent supporters — jumped on X to press his case to President Joe Biden and the governors of New York and Georgia.

In his post, and writing from Salt Lake City, he wrote: "We’ve got to take the political temperature down, as evidenced by what happened in Pennsylvania today. We call on President Biden to immediately order that all federal criminal charges against President Trump be dropped, and to ask the governors of New York and Georgia to do the same."

He then added, "Such a gesture would help heal wounds and allow all Americans to take a deep breath and reflect on how we got here. Our prayers are with the victims of the shooting, President Trump and our country.”

Lee recently made news after accusing the extremist Patriot Front members of being part of a "false flag operation."

This is also not the first time Lee has asked for Trump to be exonerated, telling Fox News, "There's so many instances of reversible error in this New York conviction that [Manhattan District Attorney Alvin] Bragg's office, and those who are handling this case on appeal could, and I believe, should confess error on appeal and walk away from the whole thing and leave it alone."
