Bill Warner Coming to Pittsburgh as Our Grand Marshal

Bill Warner, Grand Marshal for the 2024 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and a contagious enthusiasm for all things automotive. His presence will undoubtedly add extra excitement to an event steeped in tradition and passion.

Bill Warner’s racing exploits are impressive. In 1975, he finished 14th in the third running of the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash and 26th in the inaugural Cannonball One Lap of America. His racing career, spanning from the SCCA to IMSA, included top-five finishes at Watkins Glen, a win at Mid-Ohio, and a victory in the Escort Series. He has restored and raced the ex-Denny Hulme Brabham BT8, the Shelby Lang Cooper and the Group 44 TR6, an ex-Paul Newman and Group 44 two-time National Champion car.

Bill will be with us all weekend at Schenley Park, so look for him while you browse the car show. He will appear on the Peoples Stage for approximately 40 minutes on Saturday, August 3, discussing photography then and now with Adele Wee, and will appear before and during Sunday’s Opening Ceremonies. Bill is arriving on Friday, August 2, to attend and speak at the PVGP’s Evening of Speed Driver & VIP Reception at the Frick Fine Arts Building. He is also a dedicated collector and restorer of unique automobiles. His collection features gems like a 1958 Cadillac El Dorado Brougham, a 1972 Ferrari 365GTB/4 “Daytona,” and a 1932 Ford High Boy Ho Roadster.

Warner’s contributions to the automotive world have garnered widespread recognition. From being named Meguiar’s Automobile Hobby Person of the Year and the prestigious Lee Iocca Award to receiving the Nicola Bulgari Award for contributions to automotive history, his influence spans various aspects of the industry. In 2021, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Historic Motoring Awards ceremony in London.

Perhaps his most notable accomplishment was in 1996, founding The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, a premier automotive event that has raised over $3.7 million for various charitable causes.

In 2022, Warner assumed the role of Chief Steward of the Rolex Historic Races, further solidifying his commitment to the preservation and celebration of automotive history.
