Two more sleeps until the All-Star Break

The Mariners lost a heartbreaker last night while the Astros won, to cut the Mariners’ lead in the AL West to just one game. The Astros lost to Texas in extras today, 2-1, so if the Mariners could pull out a win, they could repair the damage done in last night’s extra-innings loss.

Lineups:

Once again, the Angels are too busy enjoying last night’s walk-off win apparently to post a lineup graphic, so here’s what it is.

Victor Robles gets the start against the righty Soriano, leaving the switch-hitting Clase on the bench. Cal moves into the two-hole spot as DH while Garver will catch Kirby.

News:

The Futures Game was today, and the AL was soundly defeated, 6-1. Cole Young went 1-for-3 with a single, and Harry Ford went 0-for-1 with a walk.

Today’s game information:

Game time: 6:38 PT

TV: ROOT Sports NW, with Aaron Goldsmith and Dan Wilson

Radio: 710 AM Seattle Sports, with Rick Rizzs and Gary Hill Jr.

Today in Mariners history:

  • 1995: The Mariners recorded their ninth triple play in team history. Pitcher Jeff Nelson fielded a bunt, then threw to shortstop Luis Sojo who tagged the runner off second, stepped on second and tossed through to Joey Cora covering first (1-6-4). The gem came in a 4-1 loss vs. Toronto.
  • 2002: Ichiro’s first two-home run game.
  • 2003: Willie Bloomquist hits his first career home run, a first-inning grand slam.
