'Inside Out 2' Makes Pixar History, Becomes Top-Grossing Movie From Studio

Inside Out 2 just keeps getting bigger, and the Pixar movie recently broke another record!

Since premiering in June, the sequel to the studio’s 2015 box office hit has exceeded expectations. In fact, it performed so well that it drew comparisons to last year’s Barbie.

Those comparisons wound up being correct as Inside Out 2 became the top-grossing movie of the year within a few weeks of release. Shortly thereafter, it outgrossed the original Inside Out‘s entire box office run.

Now the billion dollar movie has achieved another impressive feat.

According to reporting by Variety, Inside Out 2 is now the studio’s top-grossing movie. On July 10, the movie hit the $1.25 billion mark worldwide. In doing so, it surpassed Incredibles 2, which had an overall gross of $1.24 billion.

The only animated movies that have better box office numbers now are Frozen ($1.29 billion), Frozen II ($1.45 billion) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.36 billion).

The incredible success of the movie means that we should expect to see sequels to some of Pixar’s other biggest projects.
