Jasprit Bumrah: ‘Legend in All Formats,’ Says Ramiz Raja

In the T20 World Cup 2024, pacer Jasprit Bumrah was a key player in India’s victory. Being unbeatable the entire tournament gave Rohit Sharma and company an incredible World Cup run. They won by a score of seven runs over South Africa in the championship game. The Player of the Tournament title went to Bumrah, who took 15 wickets. Bumrah recovered multiple times for Team India from the brink of defeat with his explosive pace and pinpoint yorkers. Bumrah is one of the world’s best fast bowlers right now, and that statement is not incorrect.

Bumrah is exactly as effective in ODIs and Tests as he is in T20Is. The India pacer was recently praised by former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja, who referred to him as a “legend of all three formats.”

“In my book, Jasprit Bumrah is a legend in all three formats. There is no one greater who has played all three formats. So you can see, where this boy came from, he lacked confidence, had an awkward bowling action. He was unfit, but he came back, and now he has made India win the World Cup,” Ramiz Raja said on his YouTube channel.

Coincidentally, Ramiz’s remarks coincided with the appearance on the internet of an old film purportedly featuring India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir discussing the need for the team to include more all-format players.

“I’m a very strong believer in one thing, that if you’re good, you should be playing all the three formats. I’ve never been a big believer in injury management, that you get injured, you go get recovered. As simple as it gets. When you’re playing international cricket and you’re good enough, you ask any of the top players, they want to play all the three formats. They don’t want to stay and they don’t want to be labelled as red-ball bowler or white-ball bowler,” Gambhir said in the video.

Regarding the present squad, it has been stated that after the World Cup, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja will retire from T20I cricket. In the shortest format, Team India is undergoing a metamorphosis, as they are presently playing Zimbabwe in a five-match series with a redesigned squad.

Shubman Gill is the captain of Team India, which includes rookies such Dhruv Jurel, Abhishek Sharma, and Riyan Parag.
