‘He’s the worst’ fume Emmerdale fans as they slam soap bosses for ‘boring’ character falls victim to ‘bad writing’
EMMERDALE fans are begging script writers to spare them from one of the soap’s major characters, saying he’s become “boring” and “the worst human being”.
Viewers of the long-running ITV soap have been venting their spleens over resident vicar Charles Anderson, who they accuse of always being angry.
Meanwhile, some Emmerdale fans have gone as far as saying his whole family is “awful”.
Charles, played by Kevin Mathurin, has been in Emmerdale since 2020 and is the father of the late Ethan, as well as daughter Naomi.
He is also the son of Claudette (played by Flo Wilson) and the late Victor.
But superfans of the soap feel the whole family should be kicked out of the village and have turned their wrath on script writers for making the plots go ‘downhill’.
Starting a thread on Reddit, one user said it was “crazy” how Charles’ entire clan has “imploded” with misery.
They wrote: “Naomi came and went and good riddance because she was just an awful person. His father gets released from prison and reconciles with his mother (despite Charles doing everything to stop it) and then dies in the church. Now Ethan is dead and Manpreet kicked out! Only mommy left to be miserable with.”
Many agreed and joined in with their virtual pitchforks.
One wrote: “Yet again I find myself saying – come on script writers – surely you can do better than this??”
Others also pointed fingers at the script writers, saying Charles was a victim of “just poor, bad writing”, while one didn’t hold back and called Charles “such a pain in the a***”.
One tongue-in-cheek user was irritated that Charles has talked about leaving Emmerdale but has never followed through.
“And how many times has Charles packed his things without moving away? I think three times.”
But one fan was not quite so quick to dismiss the collar-wearing resident.
“Charles is the product of nonstop tragic and heart-breaking storylines and I personally don’t blame him for being the way he is.
“As for him being a terrible vicar, well considering in the past we’ve had a dad beater and an accessory to murder masquerading as men/women of God, he’s not too bad.”
In the four years since he arrived in Emmerdale village, Charles has waded through a mire of misery, including being reunited with estranged daughter Naomi, only for her to leave him again, the sudden death of his son Ethan and a broken romance with Manpreet Sharma.
