Sunnyvale residents can stay cool in community pools

Cool in the pool

The heat is on this summer, and Sunnyvale’s community pools are open to help residents and guests stay cool.

Take a dip in the Columbia Middle School pool Mondays and Wednesdays, 3-5 p.m., through Aug. 7. The Washington Community Swim Center is open for recreational swimming Tuesday-Sunday, 2-5 p.m., through Aug. 11. Entry is $5 for residents and $6 for nonresidents.

Free summer meals

Bishop Elementary School is serving free summer meals to anyone under age 18 July 28-Aug. 9. No sign-up or registration is required. Breakfast is served from 8-9 a.m., and lunch from noon-1 p.m. Meals must be eaten in the school cafeteria, located at 450 N. Sunnyvale Ave.

County fair turns 80

The Santa Clara County Fair is getting ready to celebrate “80 Years of Innovation: From the Fields to the Future.” The fair is set for July 25 -28 and Aug. 1-4.

Fair firsts include a monster truck ride, BMX stunt riders and pro wrestling demonstrations. An ocean adventure is planned for the fair’s August dates.

Fair favorites feature carnival rides, pony rides and a petting zoo, Safari Encounters, pig races, a junior livestock auction and a home arts exhibit.
