Carlos Alcaraz captured his second consecutive Wimbledon men’s singles title after defeating Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4) during Sunday’s final.
It’s the fourth Grand Slam title for Alcaraz, who needed five sets to solve Djokovic in last year’s final at the All England Club.
The 37-year-old Djokovic was attempting to win his eighth Wimbledon title, which would have matched Roger Federer for the most by a man at the grass-court major, and a record-extending 25 Grand Slam singles championship.
Djokovic had surgery on his right knee for a torn meniscus just over a month ago after he was injured during the French Open.
The 21-year-old Alcaraz won the trophy at Roland Garros in June for his third career major championship and became the youngest man to capture a Grand Slam title on grass, clay and hard courts.
Barbora Krejcikova topped Jasmine Paolini in the Wimbledon women’s final Saturday.
