All the firms letting staff have the day off or a lie-in after Euros final – do you need to set an alarm in the morning?

THE full list of firms letting staff have time off after the Euros final tonight has been revealed.

A win would make them the first England men’s team to win a major tournament on foreign soil.

It would also represent the side’s first Euros victory and the second in any major tournament, with the other being the famous World Cup win at Wembley in 1966.

Millions of Brits are expected to watch the game, with celebrations carrying on long into the night if football does indeed come home.

Pubs will take advantage of special licencing rules to stay open until 1am, allowing fans to raise a toast to the famous win (or drown their sorrows).

With that in mind, a number of employers have got into the spirit of things by giving workers time off so they can have a lie in after the historic match.

Both Tesco and Sainsbury’s will close thousands of stores early tonight to allow employees to catch the kick off while still receiving normal pay.

How to watch the Euro 2024 Final

The Euro 2024 final between Spain and England will kick off at 8pm UK time.

Viewers from home will be able to tune in on either BBC One or ITV1, with coverage on both channels running from 6.30pm.

You can also listen to radio coverage on BBC Radio 5 Live or keep up via SunSport’s Live Blog.

However, those who fancy a night out to watch the game can try and secure a table at your local pub.

Chains including Wetherspoons, Greene King, Young’s and Marston’s will be screening the game across branches.

A full list of the Spoons pubs not showing the game can be found here.

Away from pubs, fans can pile into select Everyman, Picturehouse and independent cinemas – although Vue, Cineworld and Odeon have not listed the match.

Big screens will also be set up in major cities including London, Liverpool and Manchester at a number of locations.

Lidl branches, meanwhile, will operate normally today but open an hour later in the morning to give staff a bit more time in bed.

Fitness franchise Gymshark has gone a step further, giving workers the full day off tomorrow.

Elsewhere a number of events have been rescheduled to accommodate the final.

Beloved Brit comedian John Bishop moved his show in Wolverhampton from 8pm this evening to this afternoon while the World Matchplay Darts contests due to be held at 7pm started at midday instead.

However, employment law specialist Jayne Harrisson from Richard Nelson LLP urged Brits not to take any risks if their employer hasn’t allocated time off.

She told Personnel Today: “It’s important people remember to drink responsibility and ensure they’re in a fit state to work on the Monday morning.

“If an employer thinks their employee has called in sick and it is not genuine – such as to recover from a hangover – then they can investigate the case and may take disciplinary action over unauthorised absence.

“Whatever the result, we’d encourage those planning to indulge on Sunday night to book annual leave for the following Monday, avoiding not turning up for work at all or worse being dismissed.”

It comes as the Prime Minister refused to confirm or deny the idea of a bank holiday in the event of an England win.

Sir Keir Starmer, a well-known football fan, said no decision had been made on the matter as he didn’t want to jinx the team.
