Kate Middleton and Charlotte receive moving standing ovation at Wimbledon
The Princess of Wales and her daughter Princess Charlotte received a standing ovation from the crowd at Wimbledon today.
Kate Middleton will present the trophy to the winner of the men’s single tennis final on the tournament’s last day.
This is her second public appearance after announcing she had cancer earlier this year.
Kate was seen chatting with players, including Emma Raducanu, ahead of taking her place in the Royal Box.
She wore a £1,295 purple Safiyaa dress for the occasion while Charlotte arrived in a pretty navy blue dress with white spots.
It comes after Kate attended Trooping the Colour in June, her first public appearance in months after taking a step back from public life to recover.
After the much-anticipated engagement, she stressed that she’s in no way ‘out of the woods’ yet and it did not represent a formal return to public life.
She continued: ‘I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty.
‘Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.’
Kate, patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will present the trophy to the winner of this afternoon’s clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
She arrived at the tennis tournament in SW19 less than an hour before the final was due to begin at 2pm.
Kate, who has been undergoing chemotherapy, did not attend the women’s singles final on Saturday, and Wimbledon chairwoman Debbie Jevans presented the trophy to Barbora Krejcikova on her behalf.
Actors Tom Cruise, Zendaya and Hugh Jackman were among the celebrities attending Centre Court as Czech player Krejcikova fought off Italian Jasmine Paolini to claim victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Kate paid tribute to double champion Sir Andy Murray, who has played his last match at the iconic London venue.
In a personally-signed message on social media, the princess wrote: ‘An incredible #Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud @andy-murray. On behalf of all of us, thank you! C.’
Kate visited the championships several times last year and presented Alcaraz with his first Wimbledon trophy after watching him battle Djokovic in the men’s singles final.
On Friday, Kate missed a charity polo match as husband William took to the field to raise funds for good causes at Guards Polo Club in Windsor Great Park.
The Prince of Wales, president of the Football Association, will be in Berlin later on Sunday to attend England’s Euro 2024 final against Spain.
Some spectators at Wimbledon could be seen wearing white England football shirts at the championships on Sunday morning.
