BBC Breakfast viewers slam ‘worst show ever’ – as they threaten to switch off for good

BBC Breakfast has been hammered by viewers for the ‘worst show ever’.

Viewers were not impressed on Sunday when the BBC show fixated on the Trump assassination attempt and the Euro 2024 final at the expense of almost any other news.

The show also focused on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump

The former president was shot at by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Cooks, with the bullet grazing Trump’s ear and causing blood to stream down his face.

Cooks was then shot and killed by Secret Service agents and in the chaotic aftermath another person lost their life and two others were injured.

Meanwhile, in Berlin tonight, excited England fans are gathering as Gareth Southgate’s men chase Euros glory against Spain.

Sunday’s Breakfast programme was presented live from Berlin by John Watson and Sally Nugent and dedicated significant airtime to both stories.

But viewers were unimpressed as Trump and the Euros seemed to be the only two stories available, given that today was also the Wimbledon men’s final, which the Princess of Wales was attending, and there was the ongoing situation in Gaza.

Many also thought the BBC showing a piano duet by journalists Steve Rosenberg and Henry Zeffman playing Sweet Caroline, a popular song among England fans at the Euros, was in bad taste in the wake of the Trump assassination attempt and some pleaded for it to be ‘muted’.

Furious viewers took to social media to express their anger.

“This may well be the worst episode of #bbcbreakfast I’ve ever watched”, one viewer fumed on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Journalist calling Trump ‘President Trump’ multiple times, that awful piano duet and way too many interviews with football fans.”

Another parroted: “Turned on #bbcbreakfast to get an update on the Trump situation and I’ve so far had a lookalikey Southgate, a new MP at work and some reporters playing the piano? Did I imagine that last night? “

The Euros coverage had been a key focus of Saturday’s show as well, prompting viewers to beg bosses to “give it a rest”.

One wrote: “Yes I’m looking forward to the final. But give it a rest. #bbcbreakfast.”

Another added: “Aren’t they overdoing the build-up hype.”
