Fans spot Gareth Southgate’s tactical tweak to England team against Spain in Euro 2024 final

ENGLAND fans were quick to spot Gareth Southgate’s tactical tweak in the Euro 2024 final.

Southgate started the tournament with a 4-2-3-1 formation but switched for the quarter-finals against Switzerland.

England looked to be playing in a back four against Spain

In the absence of the suspended Marc Guehi, England had a three-man central defence in a 3-4-3 formation.

Bukayo Saka moved back to right wing-back with Kieran Trippier on his unfavoured left.

But Trippier was benched for the final with Manchester United’s Luke Shaw given a first start of the tournament.

Shaw was expected to line up at left-wing back with Saka on the right allowing for Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham to accompany striker Harry Kane.

But it appeared that England instead started with a back four, with Bellingham out on the left with Foden central in a 4-2-3-1.

Fans were quick to notice as one said: “Bellingham on the left wing?”

Another added: “Luke Shaw + Bellingham on that left flank looks like a dream duo.”

One commented: “Why am I watching Bellingham play left wing bro this doesn’t make sense.”
