Watch: Joe Biden speaks about assassination attempt at Trump rally
President Joe Biden addressed the nation Sunday, following the shooting at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania the day before that killed one attendee and wounded two others.
The suspect, identified by the FBI as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was also killed by the Secret Service. Bomb-making materials were found in his home and car, according to law enforcement. No motive has been determined.
Biden, accompanied by Vice President Kamala Harris, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, spoke for only a few minutes. He said he had a “short but good conversation” with Trump and was grateful Trump is doing well.
He also said he has called for a “thorough and swift” investigation of Saturday’s incident, and has ordered the Secret Service to review all of its security plans for Trump and the Republican National Convention that starts Monday in Milwaukee.
Biden also called on Americans not to rush to conclusions about the motive of the shooter and to allow authorities to continue their investigation.
Biden said he will give a further address to the nation from the Oval Office on Sunday night.
