Poundland founder Keith Smith left eye-watering fortune when he died as £8million mansion goes up for sale
POUNDLAND founder Keith Smith left more than £38million when he died.
The 79-year-old — famed for his everything-for-£1 stores — lived in a nine-bed mansion, now up for sale for £8million.
The Shropshire property even has a museum dedicated to his bargain shops.
Mr Smith left school at 16 to become an apprentice draughtsman but after selling pens to colleagues he became a market stallholder.
He set up the Poundland chain in 1990 with son Steve and their business partner David Dodd.
They sold the business in 2002 for £50million.
Mr Smith died of lung cancer two years ago.
He left his estate in trust to wife Maureen.
Son Steve and siblings Mandy and Sean are also to benefit.
