23-year-old will become a ‘very firm option’ if Spurs sell Emerson Royal – Journalist

Journalist Ben Jacobs has said that Tottenham still hold a concrete interest in Vanderson and they could make a move for the right-back once Emerson Royal leaves.

Emerson Royal looks likely to leave Spurs

Although Emerson Royal has not left Tottenham yet, it looks inevitable that he will do so, with various sources indicating that Spurs are currently locked in talks with AC Milan regarding the 25-year-old (TBR Football).

It was previously reported that Spurs had identified Vanderson as a potential replacement for the former Real Betis man, with Football.London’s Alasdair Gold claiming last month that Monaco wanted £40m for the 22-year-old amidst interest from the Lilywhites.

However, since then, Spurs have secured the services of Archie Gray, with the youngster featuring at right-back as well as in midfield for Daniel Farke’s men last season.

Tottenham like the look of Vanderson

Many would have expected Gray to serve as Pedro Porro’s understudy at right-back but Jacobs believes that Tottenham could also bring Vanderson through the door this summer if they are willing to spend around €35m-€40m (£30m-£34.3m).

He said on Last Word on Spurs: “The more concrete substance is in Vanderson. An excellent player who is currently at AS Monaco who will become a very firm option if Emerson Royal leaves.

“Monaco are looking for between €35m-€40m and Tottenham could be able to fund that if they get the kind of fee they’re looking for from Emerson.”

I cannot see Tottenham spending another £40m on a right-back after signing Archie Gray.

Postecoglou would likely prefer to spend that amount to sign another midfielder and use the 18-year-old as Porro’s understudy.
