18-year-old man killed in Hayward shooting

HAYWARD — Police are investigating a fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man that took place on Saturday morning, at around 10:30 a.m.

According to a Hayward Police Department press release posted on Sunday morning, the shooting happened near the intersection of Pompano Avenue and Sumatra Street.

“Officers responded to the area and located evidence of a shooting. Moments later, officers received reports of a shooting near the 27000 block of Havana Avenue, as well as reports of a collision,” the press statement read.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but later died from his wounds.

Authorities know the victim’s identity but are withholding the information pending further investigation. More details will be released when available, Hayward police said.

No suspect has been arrested in connection with this case yet.

This is Hayward’s seventh homicide so far this year. Earlier this month, another 18-year-old man from Pleasanton was shot near Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway and died a week later from his injuries.
