Oakland police ID man killed near his parked RV

The 52-year-old man was shot and suffered an apparent stab wound outside the RV he was living in, police said.

OAKLAND — Police here have identified the local man who was killed a few feet from the parked RV where he was living.

Dane Smith, 52, was shot and suffered an apparent stab wound shortly after midnight on July 1, near his RV on the 8400 block of Enterprise Way in Oakland. Police have not announced any arrests nor identified any suspects.

Police believe Smith’s killer drove up in a vehicle a few minutes before the homicide. They haven’t said if the suspect and Smith appeared to have known one another or if an altercation preceded the homicide.

A knife was found near Smith’s body, police said. He was pronounced dead about a half-hour after the shooting.

Smith’s death was one of two reported homicides in Oakland on July 1. Later that day, a 25-year-old man was killed in another part of the city.
