Sports Briefs: Mill Valley LL earns redemption, advances closer to title shot

Starter Oscar Karlen threw four shutout innings as the Mill Valley Little League 12-year-old All-Stars edged Alameda, 1-0, in a Section 1 elimination game Sunday at Dixon’s Hall Memorial Field.

Karlen walked none and allowed just one hit and struck out four batters. Davis Marshall took the mound to close out the final two frames as Mill Valley avenged an opening-round 4-1 loss to Alameda.

Marshall drove in the game‘s lone run with a third-inning double off the center field fence, plating Leo Tenenbown. Levi Weber added a double for Mill Valley.

Mill Valley advances to the loser’s bracket final vs Petaluma American Monday night in Dixon, with a berth in the championship at stake.

Pecos League baseball

San Rafael reliever Tavon Gibbs gave up a pair of two-run homers in the seventh inning as the Pacifics fell to the Vallejo Seaweed, 14-8, Saturday at Albert Park.

San Rafael (28-14) still leads the Pecos League Pacific Division by four games over second-place Marysville, as the Pacifics prepare for Monday’s road game against Bakersfield. Vallejo (16-26) sits in last place in the division.

Golf

Peacock Gap Golf Club will host the third annual San Rafael City Championship on July 20-21. The 36-hole stroke play event will two scratch flights, (Men’s and Seniors Championship), and three net flights (Men, Women, and seniors).
