After a tackle from Arias which left Messi in excruciating pain in the first half, he was tackled again by Luis Diaz from behind in the 64th-minute. Eventually, Messi had to leave the pitch. He was then spotted crying in the dugout. The fans too look disappointed as Messi had to leave.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that Messi may retire from international football after the Copa America 2024 final. Ahead of the summit clash, Messi had said: “Now that all this is happening and what we are living, I enjoy it, I enjoy the day to day, and it will be until when it has to be, until I feel that I can’t take it anymore.”

Earlier, there was a delay in the start of the final due to the crowd outside the stadium. Fans had come to the Hard Rock stadium without tickets seeking to enter the venue.

“We would like to inform you that individuals without tickets will not be allowed entry into the stadium. Only those with purchased tickets will be permitted entry once access is reopened. We also inform you that the match will be delayed by 30 minutes, starting at 8:30 PM,” Hard Rock stadium said in the statement.
