Heartbroken Max George announces shock death of dog he shared with girlfriend Maisie Smith – ‘Sleep well beautiful girl’
MAX George and Maisie Smith have paid heartbreaking tribute to their beloved dog after her death this weekend.
Betty, who has been part of Maisie’s family for the past 18 years, has been looked after by Max, 35, and Maisie, 23, over the course of their relationship.
Sadly, the pup died this weekend, with both The Wanted star and ex-EastEnders actress taking to Instagram to commemorate the much-loved family member.
Max posted a picture of Betty in his arms, giving her a kiss in front of a Christmas tree, and wrote: “Sleep well beautiful girl.
“Thank you for 2 years of wonderful memories and 18 years of joy with my Mais and her gorgeous family. ”
“Such a perfect picture she loved you almost as much as I do ,” Maisie wrote in response.
Maisie’s mum, Julia, also responded to the photo, and said: “Our beautiful girl, my life will never be the same without you.”
Maisie also shared a collection of photos of Betty throughout the years, including the pup enjoying a boat ride, asleep on a cosy rug, and being pushed around in a stroller.
She also paid tribute to her other dog, Benny, who died in 2020.
“Betty Smith, my beautiful girl ,” Maisie wrote. “How can I squeeze 18 wonderful years into 10 photos?! You did so well baby girl, now you can be with your brother again xxx”
“What a gorgeous girl She was one of a kind,” Max posted.
“I’m sure she’s bouncing about with Benny already. Loved her, love you my darling .”
The tragic death comes just days after loved-up Max and Maisie spent a week on a romantic getaway to Cyprus.
The pair stayed at the luxurious Cyprus Villa Retreats, where stays cost upwards of £300 a night.
Maisie and Max met while competing against each other Strictly Come Dancing back in 2020, with their relationship turning romantic in 2022.
Since then, they have been sharing a string of loved-up snaps and have even moved in together.
However, they’ve been forced to defend their relationship from trolls who take issue with their 12-year age gap.
In 2023, Maisie told The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine: “If it wasn’t that, it would be something else.
“People don’t understand what goes on behind closed doors in a relationship, and I think they also forget that I’m a consenting 21-year-old woman who’s actually been working longer than Max!
“I don’t notice the age difference and neither do my friends or family. My mum Julia is the one who reads through all the comments. I got a message from her yesterday, saying: ‘Just ignore them, you two were made for each other.’
“I think that just puts it into perspective. I really don’t care what a random person thinks of my relationship when everyone I do care about is incredibly supportive. I’ve been in the business long enough to know you have to have a thick skin.”
