Taking to X last night, he wrote: “Unbelievable. I’m back in hospital after the nerve kicked off big time, screaming grinding pain. Paramedics once again incredible but no resolution on the horizon which is a bit grim frankly x.”

Hours later, he added: “Another excellent @nhs experience. More drugs, stronger ones and a hope things might improve in the next couple of weeks.

“F***ing hope so coz I’ve had enough of this already. Thanks for your good wishes again.”

Matthew told followers the pain was “off the scale” during his previous trip to A&E, his second by ambulance in just 48 hours.

The timing couldn’t have been worse as the first call out happened on the day he was meant to be moving home.

The journalist, who earlier shared a snap of himself surrounded by boxes, wrote: “Turns out my bad neck is actually quite bad. Indebted to paramedics Steph and Miko for getting me to hospital and dealing with worst of pain.

“Doesn’t look like I’ll be moving house today”

He later joked that he was enjoying his pain relief, laughing: “Two shots of morphine so far, one diazepam, 1000mg paracetemol and it’s not even 7am #BreakfastOfChampions”.

In the days leading up to his first trip to A&E, Matthew hinted that he wasn’t feeling on top form.

Last weekend, he posted: “Neck hurts from falling asleep like crumpled tissue b4 ENG/SWI…still moving house and trying not to panic….but also panicking.”

He also joked that he felt like a “middle-aged mess.”

After his initial medical dash on Tuesday, he appeared to be on the mend.

He told fans he was home and should be back on his feet in no time.

He wrote: “Home! Thanks @uclh thanks @nhs and thanks again Steph and Miko the paramedics who were just amazing and ta too for all your good wishes. It was quite a night! Got to rest up a while and keep taking the meds. hopefully all will be good”

When to seek help

You might have gotten used to your neck pain, but you shouldn't put up with it.

The NHS states that you shouldn’t experience the pain for longer than two weeks.

Here’s when you should see your GP

  • if the pain lasts longer than a couple of weeks
  • if painkillers aren’t working
  • you’re worried about the pain
  • you have other symptoms such as pins and needles or a cold arm

Medics state if you’re experiencing pain then you should avoid doing anything that could be dangerous because you can’t move your neck, such as driving or cycling.

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, you should also keep your neck moving and don’t wear a neck collar.

He followed it by writing the following morning: “One more day of rest and I reckon I’ll be good to go again!”

The well-wishes came thick and fast with one person commenting: “Hope you get better soon x” wrote one pal.

Another said: “Omg Matthew poor you! x” added another.

A third wrote: “Bloody hell, hope you get sorted soon,” chipped in a third. “Know how debilitating a bad back is………sending healing vibes.”
