“Everyone has forgotten…”: Sourav Ganguly on naming Rohit Sharma as India’s T20 captain

Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the critics who targeted him for naming Rohit Sharma as captain have gone silent since India went on to win the T20 World Cup 2024, their first ICC trophy in 11 years..

Speaking to Bangla newspaper AajKaal, Ganguly didn’t hold back in taking the attack to the critics who criticized his decision of naming Rohit as the successor to Virat Kohli, who stepped down from T20 captaincy after the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE.

“I was criticized when I handed over the captaincy to Rohit. And now that we’ve won a trophy under his captaincy, no one is abusing me. Everyone has forgotten that I made him the captain,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly was the BCCI chief when Kohli announced his decision to step down from the captaincy in the shortest format. He followed that by stepping down from the role across all formats.
