After winning the World Cup last month to conclude his T20 international career, Rohit Sharma believes he will play Test and ODI cricket “at least for a while” going forward. Even though Rohit is currently one of the greatest hitters in the world and is enjoying some of the best cricket of his career, the 37-year-old Indian skipper is not getting any younger.
After winning the West Indies title, Rohit took a sabbatical. As a result, he will not be present for the three ODIs that are part of the limited-overs trip to Sri Lanka later this month.
He reiterated in his statement what he had stated when he announced his retirement from T20 cricket following India’s seven-run victory over South Africa in the West Indies final.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, announced earlier this month that Rohit will lead India in both the Champions Trophy in February and March of the next year and the current World Test Championship cycle.
In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Rohit led India to the semifinals, where eventual champions England defeated the team.
Under his direction, India advanced to the domestic 50-over World Cup final a year later, but lost to Australia in the summit match in Ahmedabad.
