I never went back to the hairdresser after lockdown – my locks look healthier than ever before thanks to my DIY routine

A REGULAR appointment at the salon may not be vital for long healthy locks.

One woman revealed her impressive hair transformation since she took matters into her own hands during Covid.

A Reddit user broke down each step of the at-home haircare routine she swears by for healthy locks

In a Reddit post, user Merpmerp34 showed off a before and after look at her locks.

The poster explained each step of her haircare process and revealed the “holy grail products” she used.

“After years of bad cuts and colour jobs, I decided at the start of the pandemic to totally change my hair routine,” she said.

“After a lot of research, I got all new products [and] started dying and cutting my hair exclusively at home too.”

According to the poster, her hair has “never been nicer” since implementing the routine.

“I honestly can’t believe I was able to get these results at home but I’m so so happy about it,” the Redditor said.

She described her at-home routine as a “super cost effective” alternative to the salon.

For her first step, she applied botanical oil to her scalp and a warm coconut and olive oil mask to the ends.

She said she sometimes adds the £39.20 Olaplex No. 0 and No. 3 Hair Treatment duo and £21.65 No. 6 Bond Smoother to her regime as well.

For her next tip, the poster revealed that she also shampoos her hair twice.

While she named the £18.67 Pureology Hydrate Shampoo as her number one go-to, she also recommended the £19 Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo and the £12.81 L’Oréal Pair Ever Pure Shampoo.

On the days when she dyes her roots, she uses the £39 K18 Detox Shampoo.

The poster also swears by hair masks, with her favourite being the £18 Eva NYC Therapy Session.

She recommended “anything super thick” that she can leave on for 10 minutes.

When conditioning, the Reddit user swears by the £19.99 Pureology Hydrate Conditioner.

DIY haircare tips

  • Apply botanical oil to scalp and a warm coconut and olive oil mask to ends before showering.
  • Shampoo from roots to ends twice.
  • Apply a thick hair mask and leave on for 10 minutes.
  • Condition and apply a detangler spray before combing through with a wet brush.
  • Apply Moroccan oil to the ends of hair.
  • Limit heat use and heat protectant all over.
  • Sleep with your hair in a loose scrunchie bun and use a silk pillowcase.
  • Trim your ends every one to two months.

“I feel like this leaves my hair soft after using the mask,” she explained.

She also uses the £30 Unite 7 Seconds Detangler Spray every time she brushes my hair as well as Moroccan oil on the ends.

“[This] helps so much with damage, [I use] a wet brush,” she wrote.

“My hair is dry and thick so it absorbs any and all moisture.”

The poster explained that she usually opts to wear her wavy hair natural.

“[I] try to limit using heat to only a few times a month,” she said, revealing that her favourite heat protectant is the £18.50 Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil.

For extra toning, she uses purple shampoo and blue conditioner on her roots.

She also revealed that she sleeps on silk pillowcases and only uses loose scrunchies.

“I sleep with my hair in a loose high bun at night,” the Reddit user said.

“I trim my ends every one to two months, I’m working on, and getting better at, adding long layers.”
