The back catalogue of nostalgic series from the last five decades will air on BBC Four.

Blankety Blank‘s original series, which aired between 1979 and 1999 will rerun on the channel.

Starring the late Terry Wogan and Les Dawson, it ran for a total of 13 series.

Also returning to the airwaves this summer is Noel Edmonds with his beloved House Party.

The show, which was last on screens 25 years ago, featured the comedy character Mr Blobby.

Strictly Come Dancing is also included in the list of TV classics as it celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

The very first episode of the dancing show – which was hosted by Tess Daly and the late Sir Bruce Forsyth – will be broadcast.

Bruce, who died in 2017, will be honoured as the Beeb rerun his episodes of The Generation Game.

All shows will air across BBC Four as well as iPlayer during coverage of the Olympic games.

Speaking about the return of the classics, Lindsay Currie, the head of BBC Four said: “We are thrilled to bring our viewers on a nostalgic journey through five decades of beloved BBC entertainment.

“Whilst BBC One is dedicated to the Olympics, BBC Four will offer a treasure trove of classic shows fronted by much-loved presenters.

“This collection is testament to the enduring appeal of these iconic programmes, and we know audiences will love revisiting these classics and celebrating the rich heritage of the BBC’s Saturday night entertainment offering.”
