According to Jon Wenham, who breaks news about Tottenham’s academy on the Lilywhite Rose social media platforms, Tottenham Under-21s are set to take on Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq FC later this month.
Tottenham’s U21s had a great 2023/24 season
Spurs’ Under-21s were dominant in Premier League 2 last season, coasting to the title, and they will be keen to carry on from where they left off this campaign.
There will be some changes to the set-up this season, with a few Under-18 players making the step up while some key players as Jamie Donley could potentially have a first-team role or be sent out on loan.
It was a much changed Under-21 side that took on Enfield Town on Saturday in their pre-season opener, with the Spurs youngster emerging 3-2 winners thanks to a brace from Will Lankshear and an early strike from Callum Olusesi.
Spurs U21s vs Al-Ettifaq FC
It has now emerged that Wayne Burnett’s men will travel to Spain for a pre-season friendly to take on Al-Ettifaq FC in a friendly.
The club, which is based in Dammam, is managed by Premier League legend Steven Gerrard, and they finished sixth in the Saudi Pro League table last season.
However, Wenham confirmed that the friendly, which will take place on 24 July, will be played behind closed doors.
Spurs Web Opinion
Al-Ettifaq FC boast of the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Moussa Dembele and Demarai Gray in their ranks, so it will be a great experience for Tottenham’s youngsters to test themselves against seasoned professionals.
