Columbus gasoline price drop matches previous week

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – For the second consecutive week the average price for a gallon of gasoline in the Columbus area dropped by around 11 cents after a roller-coaster end to the month of June.

According to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations in the Columbus area, the average price of gasoline dropped by 10.6 cents to settle in at $3.37 per gallon. This, after prices fell 11 cents the previous week, comes after Columbus motorists experienced spikes in gas prices two of the previous three weeks.

The current price is 13.7 cents per gallon lower than one month ago but is 0.8 cents per gallon higher than this time one year ago. In Ohio, the average price of gas also fell 11.3 cents per gallon, from $3.40 per gallon to $3.29 per gallon.

The cheapest gas station in the Columbus area was priced at $3.19 a gallon, while the most expensive was $3.69, a difference of 50 cents per gallon. Nationally, gas prices ticked up slightly by 2.5 cents per gallon to reach $3.49.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said that in the near future prices are likely to remain steady, give or take, unless there is a disruption in production due to unforeseen circumstances.

“The nation's average price of gasoline has remained somewhat stuck in the mid-$3 per gallon range with a mixed bag of prices: small declines in some states and modest increases in others as we wait for what could be the next major trend," he said. “For now, we'll continue to see small price fluctuations as we await news of any hurricane-fueled refinery disruptions or other supply challenges as we head into the busiest weeks of the summer travel season."
