If you’re not familiar with Dr. Becky Kennedy, she’s the brilliant clinical psychologist (and mom of three!) behind the parenting company Good Inside. She has 2.8 million followers on Instagram, a bestselling book, a line of potty training products with Frida Baby, and a beyond-beloved TedTalk. That’s nowhere near where the accolades end, but we’re dying to share the newest accomplishment and title that Dr. Becky (as she’s lovingly known on social media) can add to her resume: children’s book author! Dr. Becky is about to release her debut picture book, and it tackles an incredibly tricky subject for parents: hitting.

Parents and caregivers who have kids who have gone through the hitting phase — whether it’s hitting adults, their peers, or both — know how hard it can be to navigate. And Dr. Becky wanted to give parents a resource for going through a (literally!) rough time.

“As a clinical psychologist, I know books can be powerful tools for connection and learning,” she tells SheKnows. “With That’s My Truck! I aimed to create not just an engaging story, but an opportunity for connection and skill-building for both kids and parents.”

That's My Truck!: A Good Inside Story About Hitting

In That’s My Truck!, Charlie walks into a playroom to see his little sister Pia playing with not just any ol’ truck, but his favorite truck. Before he knows it, Charlie is so overwhelmed with his feelings that he hits his sister. What comes next is an engaging exploration into what can be a common problem for parents of young kids and what can be done about it.

Though the book won’t be released until 2025 (but is available for pre-order now, so don’t wait!), Dr. Becky’s advice is constantly available on social media and on her website, GoodInside.com, where she offers workshops and special membership opportunities.

As many of her resources suggest, much of Dr. Becky’s work is around helping children and families feel good inside.

“We have to feel good inside before we kind of ‘act good’ outside,” she told SheKnows exclusively in February 2023. “I know that’s not grammatically correct, right? But when our kids are having a hard time, it’s because they’re struggling.” The reasons they are struggling are, unfortunately, endless. But sometimes it’s just about losing their favorite truck, and not knowing what to do about it. And that is something parents will be able to confidently tackle.
