LASODA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION, INTEGRATION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal has reaffirmed the Agency’s unwavering commitment to promoting the inclusion and integration of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Lagos State.

She disclosed this during a meeting with the Physical Cluster, a group representing individuals with physical disabilities, held at the Ikeja Local Government on Saturday.

Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal emphasised that LASODA will continue collaborating with both government and private organisations to create an enabling environment for PWDs.

She said the Agency actively engages with various ministries, departments, agencies, and private entities to empower people with disabilities through skills development, financial assistance, medical support, advocacy and other impactful interventions.

“One notable initiative involves working closely with the Lagos State Scholarship Board to compile a comprehensive list of students with disabilities in higher institutions. This effort aims to ensure that these students can benefit from the state government’s scholarship Programmes”, she added.

Urging stakeholders to champion policies and initiatives that foster diversity and inclusivity, she encouraged PWDs to join cluster groups aligned with their specific disability type, emphasising that group membership facilitates awareness of available policies and initiatives.

In response, the State Chairman of the Physical Cluster, Mr. Rotimi Adeniyi expressed appreciation for LASODA’s efforts and assured continued support for the Agency.

The high point of the meeting was the presentation of Crutches to the Association for dinner distribution to all members.
