Alvaro Morata seals major European transfer 24 hours after Euro 2024 win and proves BBC commentator right

ALVARO MORATA is joining AC Milan from Atletico Madrid less than 24 hours after lifting the Euro 2024 trophy.

Spain captain Morata, 31, helped break English hearts as La Roja edged it 2-1 in Berlin on Sunday night, thanks to Mikel Oyarzabal’s late strike.

Now, just one day later, Morata has even more reason to celebrate – after sealing a transfer to Italian giants Milan.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Milan have triggered the striker’s £10.9million release clause to seal the bargain deal.

The ex-Chelsea player has agreed personal terms with the Rossoneri and is about to sign a four-year deal.

Morata is now expected to undergo a medical at the San Siro within the week.

Morata’s move to Milan proves BBC commentator Guy Mowbray right as he praised the centre-forward before the Euro 2024 final.

Mowbray said the forward “only does the biggest clubs” and now he is set to play for another elite outfit.

Morata first made his name with Real Madrid where he spent four seasons in their first team before leaving for Juventus in 2014.

He played for two years with Juve before moving to Chelsea in 2017 following a brief return to Real.

However, Morata failed to deliver at Chelsea, who signed him on a then-club record £65million deal.

He amassed a total of just 24 goals and six assists in 72 appearances at Stamford Bridge.

And he was promptly sent to Atletico on loan in 2019 for a year.

Atleti completed a permanent deal in 2020, but immediately sent Morata back Juventus for two campaigns on loan.

He ultimately came back to the Spanish capital and scored 21 goals in 48 games with Diego Simeone’s side last season.
