Aileen Cannon just gave Hunter Biden a massive gift: legal expert

Andrew Weissmann, former top prosecutor for special counsel Robert Mueller's team, tore apart Judge Aileen Cannon's recent ruling to dismiss Donald Trump's documents case on Monday.

Speaking about the matter on MSNBC, Weissmann explained that Cannon is restricting the executive branch's power, and it isn't within her scope as a Florida district judge to do something like that.

"I'm sure a lot of viewers are going, but what are you talking about? Special counsel Mueller was a special counsel, and that was upheld. Special counsel Rob Hur, who investigated the current sitting president, Joe Biden. He was able to do that. There is a current special counsel who has prosecuted Hunter Biden and is still prosecuting Hunter Biden," said Weissmann.

Despite all this precedent, noted Weissmann, Cannon still struck down Smith's appointment as unconstitutional.

"So, all of those other judges where there's been this challenge have rejected the view of Judge Cannon. She stands alone," said Weissmann. "What she's doing in many ways is putting in writing what she has done de facto in this case. She's delayed this case at every step."

However, he said, the difference here is that there is finally a written resolution, which allows the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to step in.

"I think that for cynical viewers, they can put this decision by Judge Cannon alongside the Supreme Court's immunity decision from two weeks ago to really think about the problem with rule of law in this country," he continued.
