Sources confirmed that former ambassador and former Republican South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will speak at this week’s Republican National Convention (RNC).

The news comes less than a day after a failed assassination attempt on presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump – whom Haley had unsuccessfully run against during the party’s primaries.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Haley, the “final major challenger [to Trump] in the presidential primary,” was not “included in the original program, and a representative for Haley previously said she wasn’t invited.”

“But with Saturday’s shooting, Republicans have called for unity and the image of her attending the convention will buttress that, the person said,” according to WSJ’s report.

NBC News noted that the invitation of Haley “appears to have come within the past few days.”

“On Tuesday, Haley released her 97 delegates so they could support Trump at the convention,” NBC reported:

Chaney Denton, a longtime senior aide to Haley, told NBC News at the time that she “was not invited” to the convention and that “she’s fine with that.”

“Trump deserves the convention he wants,” Denton said. “She’s made it clear she’s voting for him and wishes him the best.”

The shocking attempt on Trump’s life Saturday night may have been the deciding factor that changed the dynamic.

Haley wrote on X Saturday night that the assassination attempt “should horrify every freedom loving American.”

“Violence against presidential candidates must never be normalized,” she stated. “We are lifting up Donald Trump, the entire Trump family, and all in attendance in prayer.”

On Tuesday – four days earlier – Haley wrote that the upcoming “nominating convention is a time for Republican unity.”

“Joe Biden is not competent to serve a second term and Kamala Harris would be a disaster for America,” she stated:

We need a president who will hold our enemies to account, secure our border, cut our debt, and get our economy back on track. I encourage my delegates to support Donald Trump next week [at the RNC] in Milwaukee.

Other former primary rivals of Trump’s now slated to speak at the convention include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
