England may have lost in the Euro 2024 final this weekend, but one Tottenham player has taken to social media to share praise for the Three Lions squad.

England fall short, but provide joy for the country

In a tense and ultimately disappointing conclusion to Euro 2024, England fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Spain, with a late winner sealing the trophy for Luis de la Fuente’s side in Berlin.

Sharing a message of support for the England squad, James Maddison took to Instagram to console the players and hail them for their efforts.

Alongside a photo of the despairing Marc Guehi, Conor Gallagher, Declan Rice, and Kobbie Mainoo, Maddison wrote: “So proud of that group of lads. Fell at the last hurdle but doesn’t take away the amazing moments this group gave the country once again.”

England fell behind early in the second half through a Nico Williams goal, but were able to level the game in the 73rd minute thanks to a fine strike from Chelsea star, Cole Palmer.

Unfortunately, Gareth Southgate’s side couldn’t push on and find a winner, and eventually were hit on the counterattack by Spain, with Marc Cucurella setting up Mikel Oyarzabal for an 86th-minute winner.

Maddison missed out on England final

Maddison himself was left out of the England squad for the tournament, being one of the players to be culled from Southgate’s preliminary 30-man squad.

The Tottenham star has seven England caps to his name, and one assist (Transfermarkt). He was involved in the friendlies against Belgium and Bosnia earlier this year.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spain definitely deserved the win last night, and based on their overall performance through the tournament.

But, it’s just frustrating that we got back into the game and then failed to push on and put them under pressure when we could have gained the upper hand.
