Topeka pool closes suddenly amid heat wave

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Local officials announced the sudden closure of a Topeka pool during a spike in summer heat over the weekend.

27 News reached out to Shawnee County Parks and Recreation (SCP+R) to learn more about the situation at the Blaisdell Family Aquatic Center located in Gage Park. SCP+R posted to social media on Saturday, July 13 the pool would be closed until further notice due to maintenance problems. People were told to visit one of the other pools in the county while repairs were underway.

Sean Zears with SCP+R told 27 News the issue was first noticed Saturday morning and was caused by a break in the main circulation pump at the pool. Staff are waiting for replacement parts to come in and "are at the mercy of shipping" with no specific date set for when the pool will reopen.

The SCP+R will notify locals when the pool is fixed via social media. You can follow the SCP+R's Facebook account by clicking here. For more information on the pool's managed by SCP+R, click here.
