KU pitcher selected in third round of MLB draft

LAWRENCE (KSNT) - A Jayhawk reliever is getting his shot at the next level.

The Seattle Mariners selected KU pitcher Hunter Cranton in the third round of the MLB draft on Monday, with pick No. 91 overall.

Cranton spent two years with Kansas, notching a 2.16 ERA in 25 appearances in 2024 and recording a 4-3 record with seven saves. Cranton, a right-handed pitcher, struck out 38 batters on 25 innings pitched in his final year of college baseball.

He pitched at San Diego State in 2022 before transferring to Kansas.
