Man falls 60+ feet from tree in Kansas City: KCFD

A man was hospitalized after falling 60+ feet from a tree in Kansas City near Front Street on Monday morning.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man is in the hospital after falling 60 or more feet from a large tree in Kansas City on Monday morning.

Around 3:30 a.m. the Kansas City Fire Department responded to a "high-angle rescue" on Universal Avenue. When responders arrived, a person was 60+ feet up in a large tree in a wooded area off Front Street.

Police at the scene said the individual was possibly a person of interest in an attempted robbery at QuikTrip earlier in the night. KCFD attempted to reach the individual with one of its ladder trucks, however, due to the height, it was not possible.

As KCFD prepared to send up climbers, the individual began climbing higher in the tree. The climber reached a point where the branches could no longer hold his weight and fell to the ground.

He was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. KCFD was alerted to the situation by a neighboring business that heard the individual calling out for help.

It is unknown at this time if he got stuck or scared and could not get himself down.
