Three-story Topeka house fire causes $12,000 in damages

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Firefighters in Topeka doused a house fire Sunday afternoon that caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka said in a press release that fire crews were called around 3:30 p.m. on July 14 to a residence in the 1200 block of Southeast Quincy Street. Firefighters arriving at the scene found heavy smoke and flames coming from the first floor of a three-story home.

The Topeka Fire Department put the fire out, containing it in the home. Firefighters searching the home found no people inside.

Nichols said an investigation into the fire found the cause to be incendiary and that around $12,000 in damage was caused to the structure. No working smoke detectors were found inside the house.
