Two arrested in New Iberia Sunday morning vandalism

UPDATE, 7/15/24, 10:47 am; Two suspects have been identified and arrested in connection to the vandalism. Luke Bienvenu, 17, and a 16-year-old male juvenile, both of St. Martinville, were each charged with Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Assault, and firing an air gun within the city limits.

The investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests are possible.

ORIGINAL, 7/14/24, 3:14 pm; NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) -- Meche's Donuts in New Iberia was damaged overnight by gunfire, according to the New Iberia Police Department.

New Iberia Police Capt. Leland Laseter said New Iberia police received a call around 2:30 a.m. Sunday regarding shots fired in the 400 block of East Saint Peter Street.

When they arrived, there was property damage to one of the local businesses, Meche's Donuts, Laseter said. No one was injured at the time of the shooting.

Management at Meche's Donuts said in a social media post Sunday that the shooting left the donut shop's front windows shattered.

"We are grateful that all employees who were working at that time are safe and no one was injured," the shop's social media post read. "... We appreciate your continued support [and] prayers as we seek justice for this random act."

The donut shop said it will be closed until Tuesday, July 16, to allow for repairs.

The shooting remains under investigation.
