Boos drown out Mitch McConnell at Republican National Convention



MILWAUKEE — Moments after Florida delegates to the Republican National Convention officially gave Donald Trump enough votes to become the GOP's 2024 presidential nominee, the roll call continued with Kentucky offering up its votes.

But as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell stood to declare Kentucky's 46 delegate votes for Trump, other delegates throughout the Fiserv Forum — representing states from sea to shining sea — drowned him out with boos.

From the second level of the arena, McConnell's mouth was seen moving, but his voice could not be heard.

ABC News' Terry Moran reported, "It got real cold. Those boos were from the heart. Mitch McConnell has become persona non grata because he did criticize Donald Trump.

McConnell, who plans to step down next year as Senate leader for Republicans, has long clashed with Trump, which has earned him the ire of the party's MAGA grassroots.

Despite his misgivings, McConnell endorsed Trump in March.
