Sharon Stone Recreates 'Basic Instinct' Scene in Lingerie, Heels
It's been more than 30 years since Stone made movie history with the racy scene.
Sharon Stone has appeared in dozens of television and film roles through her decades-long acting career, but perhaps none are so memorable as her 1992 erotic thriller, Basic Instinct. And over the weekend, the 66-year-old recreated the most memorable scene from the film wearing nothing but racy lingerie and heels.
In the film, Stone stars as crime novelist Catherine Tramell, the prime suspect in a murder plot being investigated by homicide detective Nick Curran, portrayed by Michael Douglas. During the investigation, Douglas' character becomes involved in an intense, ill-advised sexual entanglement with Catherine.
At one point in the film, while being interrogated by police, Catherine crosses and uncrosses her legs to reveal that she's not wearing underwear.
It was this scene in question that Stone mimicked in an Instagram post. The photo shows the fiery blonde sitting in an ornate gold chair, wearing a lacy pink bra and panties set, which she accessorized with oversized pearl necklaces and blue heels adorned with purple flowers.
"BASICALLY ….YOURS" she simply captioned the image in all-caps.
But while Stone may be embracing the iconic scene now, that hasn't always been the case. In an excerpt from her 2021 memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, published by Vanity Fair in the wake of the #MeToo movement, the actress recalled how she was allegedly led on to remove her underwear in the scene, and wasn't aware of it until she got called in to see a screening of the film.
"Not on my own with the director, as one would anticipate, given the situation that has given us all pause, so to speak, but with a room full of agents and lawyers, most of whom had nothing to do with the project," she wrote at the time.
"That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, 'We can’t see anything—I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on,'" Stone explained. "Yes, there have been many points of view on this topic, but since I’m the one with the vagina in question, let me say: The other points of view are bulls--t."
Of course, the world is a much different place more than 30 years later. Earlier this year, former Saturday Night Live cast member Dana Carvey likewise apologized to Stone for a sketch in which she was coerced into disrobing for laughs.
But in either case, it seems as though Stone is now committed to owning her former blonde bombshell persona.
