Kim Kardashian showed ‘too much cleavage’ in $20k-apiece Indian wedding outfits, but another detail was ‘a step too far’
KIM KARDASHIAN and her sister Khloe’s Indian wedding outfits took the fashion world by storm at what has been dubbed the world’s most expensive wedding.
But an Indian fashion expert has claimed the sister’s pricy clothes exposed style misdemeanors that may be “frowned upon” by the country’s more conservative elite.
Kim, 43, and Khloe, 40, attended India’s four-day million-dollar Ambani wedding, which kicked off on Friday.
Along with A-listers and celebrities, the KUWTK stars brought out several Indian outfits specially for the extravaganza.
Indian fashion expert Eshita Kabra-Davies, founder of By Rotation, said Kim and Khloe should have covered up.
“I was quite surprised to see Kim and Khloe Kardashian at an Indian wedding,” she told The U.S. Sun.
“They looked great, but if one thing was wrong stylistically, there was a lot of cleavage.
“Kim’s blouses were too small while some other women had them appropriately fitted.
“Cleavage is perceived quite negatively and overtly sexual at Indian weddings.
“Kim and Khloe could have covered up more.”
Kabra-Davies suggested the reality star’s combination of cleavage and jewelry was “too much.”
“Kim had beautiful necklaces around her neck, but with the cleavage, there were too many things to look at,” she said.
In her red dress, Kabra-Davies pointed out that “most of Kim’s breasts and part of the areola” were visible.
And though that did not break any protocol, it wouldn’t have won her rave reviews locally.
“Traditionally and in conservative circles, this show and amount of cleavage would only be frowned upon,” Kabra-Davies said.
“Most other Indian guests were not dressed that way.
“Kim’s look as a whole was too much.”
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding had cost around $600 million and made international headlines.
The groom is the son of Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, while Radhika is a pharmaceutical heiress.
Kim and Khloe flew into the Indian capital on Thursday, immersing themselves in Indian culture at the lavish Taj Mahal Palace.
Photos on Instagram showed the pair at an arrival ceremony when they received bindis.
SPLASHING OUT THE BIG BUCKS
Kabra-Davies suggested Kim and Khloe’s outfits were loaned but would have a hefty price tag for anyone who wanted to buy them.
“The celebrities would have been loaned or gifted these fashion items,” she said.
“For example, the lowest cost would be $2,000 for one Indian outfit.
“Kim and Khloes would easily set someone back $20,000 per outfit.”
Kim’s first outfit was a red lehenga choli by Manish Malhotra that was covered in sequins and tassels and included a skirt, plunging blouse, and shawl.
She shared a photo on Instagram showing her styled hair in waves and dripping in Indian jewelry.
Khloe wore a white and gold dress with sleeves. Her necklace was by the same designer as Kim’s.
Both sisters wore a Maang Tikka on their foreheads.
Kim’s nose jewelry was maybe a step too far, and we have smaller ones too.

Later, Kim wore a peachy gold and silver outfit by Tarun Tahiliani, while Khloe was dressed in pink.
Kim wore neutral makeup this time but added a Nath, or bridal nose ring, by the jeweler Lorraine Schwartz.
The significance of wearing a Nath is that it symbolizes being married and paying respect to the goddess.
NATH SMALL ENOUGH
According to Kabra-Davies, Kim’s Nath was the wrong size.
“This is traditionally quite bridal,” she explained.
“But fashions are changing, and designers want to sell whatever they can.
“A bridal nose ring is fine, but this was too big on Kim.
“When Kim introduced the nose jewelry, or Nath, there were too many other distractions.
“Kim’s nose jewelry was maybe a step too far, and we have smaller ones too.
“Overall though, the reality stars’ second outfits, with Khloe in the pink, were again too over the top.”
On Monday, Kim shared a photo montage of a third outfit on social media.
“India has my heart,” she captioned the post, showing her dressed in red again.
The couple would not have minded Kim wearing red.

“OK, this does not look Indian, this looks like a costume,” said one follower.
“Not supposed to wear red to a wedding in India. That’s saved for the bride,” added another.
IN THE RED
According to Kabra-Davies, Kim likely had “clearance” to wear red.
“The couple would not have minded Kim wearing the red,” she said.
“The couple did not wear red themselves; it would have only been an issue if the bride had been wearing red.
“Kim was getting the brunt of all that criticism around red, but she would have asked for clearance.”
The Kardashian sisters celebrated with the Chopra-Jonases, Boris Johnson, Adele, and Drake.
Other celebrities at the event seemed to honor the Indian wedding dress code.
John Cena arrived in a blue sherwani and trousers. Joe Jonas opted for pink, and his wife was in yellow.
HERE COMES THE BRIDE
Kabra-Davies said the bride looked conservative and claimed stars did not outshine her.
“The actress Natasha Pumbala got it right and wore gold and light pink,” she said.
“She did not need to wear everything at once, was quite respectful to the bride, and did not try to outshine her.
“Kim and Khloe were invited to that wedding to draw attention to the wedding, which they did.
This wedding brought Indian fashion into the limelight.

“The Ambanis wanted to ensure that they would be featured in every news outlet and become the talk of the world for a few days.
“But if you looked at the bride, she was demure and was not dressed in anything revealing or shocking.
“She was not trying to be sexy or talked about and appeared as a family woman getting married.”
Interestingly, Kim spoke to Vogue in 2018 about her love for the country when the magazine featured her on its cover.
“The saris, the jewelry, the clothes — everything was so beautiful!” she said,
“We have to figure out how to get to India,” Kim added at the time.
INTO THE LIMELIGHT
“Overall, this is such a great moment for Indian fashion and couture,” added Kabra-Davies, founder of the world’s first social fashion rental app.
“It is the recognition our designers deserve because we have insane artisanship, amazing creations, and designs.
“Made in India is a term that brands are not proud to use, but so many things you buy from Western brands are made in India.
“This wedding brought Indian fashion into the limelight.
“There are many healthy people in India, and marketers should start focusing their efforts there.
“Indian designers are getting to be better known globally now.
“Kim and Khloe’s outfits would have cost around $60,000 each, so it would be important to get it all right.”
