EDEN, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Buffalo Sabres fans have been blessed when it comes to who's in the booth calling their games.

Of course, no one will ever forget Rick Jeanneret, one of the greatest broadcasters of all time in the sport of hockey.

When Jeanneret decided to step away from the booth, Dan Dunleavy was tasked with taking over the play-by-play duties for the Sabres. Dunleavy has been with the organization since the 2013-2014 season.

He's a Toronto native and despite not being from the 716 area code, he has truly immersed himself in what it means to be a Western New Yorker. His love for the Sabres and Bills, wings, and the City of Buffalo prove that.

When Dunleavy isn't in the booth calling games during the NHL season, he lives a pretty good life.

His days consist of something many people dream of: spending all day with his dogs, Bandit, a local SPCA rescue, and 11-year-old Timmy, a laboratory-beagle rescue. He customized his backyard to be the perfect playground for them.

"What I did was came in with a leaf blower, rakes and chainsaws to cut some trees out of the way," he said. "I basically blew this path, and the dogs love it outside."

Even in the offseason, Dunleavy can't help but catch up on the latest NHL news in his office, which is home to many Sabres memories.

"Ted Darling, of course, the original voice of the Buffalo Sabres, is who I grew up watching on TV and listening to," he said, pointing to a poster of him. "There's a little bit of Ted Darling in how I call the game -- some long-time Sabres fans might pick up on that."

This is what Dunleavy will be doing for the next few months during the Sabres offseason.

He spends quality time with his pups and enjoys going kayaking with his wife, Barbara. Dunleavy doesn't take these slower-paced days for granted, knowing that his lifestyle will soon change when fall approaches and Sabres hockey returns to downtown Buffalo.
