LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- When you think of professional wrestling, you might think of the bright lights of WrestleMania or even the larger-than-life characters that visit Acadiana at the Cajundome, but what you may not know, is that all the hard work begins at wrestling school.

"When you see the guys on TV, those are extremely talented professionals, and they make it look easy," trainer Hunter Law said. "But when you get in here, nothing is easy. Nothing at all. It hurts. It's a lot different from what you think it is."

The Louisiana Wrestling Alliance is run by Joey Comeaux, also known as "Gorgeous" Joey Jackson, and Law, who use their years of experience to give back to their community by providing a place for aspiring wrestlers to learn the discipline and skills needed to perform in the ring.

It's also where people learn first-hand the physical challenge that comes with this form of sports entertainment.

"I hate the word fake," Comeaux said. "Everything they do is real. How they do it is a different story. We try to teach the technique. It's not showing you how to fall. We're showing you how to land because you're going to fall."

"From the very first time you step in the ropes, the first thing that we do is we teach you all the things that you need to do to be able to protect yourself," Law said. "So the rolls, the bumps."

The basics range from running the ropes to taking bumps, and being on the receiving end of a Supplex, as well as feeling the dreaded chop.

With all the bumps, the bruises, the championships and the stories, Comeaux said he knows the greatest lesson he's learned from the wrestling industry: respect.

"Learn how to treat people, respect people," Comeaux said. "It's more than just learning the craft of wrestling. It's it's it's a life. It's a life lesson in general."
