Columbus makes August the Gift of Music month

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- August will now be known as the Gift of Music Month after the Columbus City Council passed a resolution Monday.

The Gift of Music is an annual music instrument drive program that asks the community for gently used instruments to give to local students in need. Hundreds of musical instruments are collected and distributed each year with this program.

The resolution passed unanimously. Executive Director of Music Columbus Bruce Garfield was there to accept the resolution. 

"On behalf of a small and mighty team and the thousands of music creators in Columbus and those who are on their way to becoming, I want to thank everybody for this honor,” Garfield said.

Garfield is also grateful to the community, and he hopes that will continue over the years. 

“The programs that we've been able to offer from the Gift of Music and putting an instrument on the young person's hands to Earn as You Learn internship and workforce development program have all been fruitful and it's because of the support we get,” Garfield said.
