Painted motifs found on walls of Terra mosque 

Painted motifs were found on the interior walls of the mosque in the Paphos district village of Terra, as restoration work on the mosque began. 

The motifs were discovered under the plaster on the walls, with records of the walls having been painted not having previously existed.  

Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage co-chairman Ali Tuncay said the motifs “once again reveal how rich a cultural heritage our historical buildings have”. 

“Our work symbolises our determination to pass on our historical and cultural values to future generations,” he said.  

Asked by the Cyprus Mail if he knew what the motifs symbolised, he said, “we do not yet know either”. 

“Our experts will examine the images,” he added. 

Restoration works are ongoing at the mosque in Terra as well as at the mosque in the Limassol district village of Alektora.

Tuncay said he hopes the works will be completed by the end of the year.
