Suryakumar Yadav to EDGE Hardik Pandya as Rohit Sharma’s Successor as India’s T20I Captain?

The BCCI is concerned about Hardik's fitness and they have already received a feedback about Suryakumar.

Mumbai: While reports suggested that Hardik Pandya is the frontrunner to become India’s next T20I captain, there seems to be a twist in the tale. As per a report on the Indian Express, Suryakumar Yadav is in the race and he will in all probability will edge Hardik and become India’s next T20I captain. As per the same report, the Indian board is concerned about Hardik’s fitness and they have already received a feedback about Suryakumar.

“It is a delicate matter. There is an argument on both sides of the debate and thus everyone is not on the same page. Hardik’s fitness is an issue but he played a big role in breaking India’s ICC jinx. As for Suryakumar, we have received feedback from the team that his captaincy style was well received by the dressing room,” said a BCCI source involved in decision-making.

It is also learnt that Hardik will not be part of the Sri Lanka series due to personal reasons.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has been travelling consistently following the T20 WC triumph. After returning to India, the whole India team went to meet PM Narendra Modi in Delhi before flying to Mumbai for a open-bus road show.

Post that, Rohit left for London to be present at the Wimbledon men’s singles semifinal match between eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev. He was recently seen attending an event in Dallas, USA. In an interview with Aldar Experts Podcast, Rohit was asked what it takes to be a good leader.

To which, the Indian captain replied, “For a leader, I think it’s important to try and lead from the front, set an example for rest of your colleagues, your teammates. And for me, it’s always been important that I’ve always carried myself in a way where I try and set an example for my colleagues.”
