Sports Briefs: Mill Valley LL rallies to secure title shot

Cole Swift and Jack Payne both scored on the same wild pitch in the seventh inning to lift the Mill Valley 12s All-Stars to a 7-5 comeback win over Petaluma American in a Section 1 elimination game at Dixon on Monday night.

Mill Valley advances to the Section 1 championship game against Napa American on Tuesday and must defeat Napa American twice to win the Section.

Swift hurled three innings of hitless relief to help keep Mill Valley within striking range, after facing a 5-2 deficit in the second inning. Levi Weber closed the final two innings for Mill Valley and did not allow a run.

Down 5-3 in the fifth inning, Mill Valley’s Leo Tenenbown singled and Kadin Mokari doubled. Tenenbown scored on a wild pitch to close the gap to 5-4. Mokari scored the tying run when Davis Marshall smashed an RBI single.

Beckett Glynn had two RBIs for Mill Valley, which has now won three consecutive elimination games in Dixon. Marshall had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs.

9-10s >> Twin Cities faces host Petaluma National in Tuesday’s Section 1 championship at Lucchesi Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. The contest is a semifinal rematch. Twin Cities (11-0) beat Petaluma 6-0 Sunday in the semifinals of the double-elimination tournament. Petaluma won an elimination game Monday night to earn a berth in the finals. A loss Tuesday to Petaluma would force a title showdown on Wednesday.
