Operator Profile: Peacock Salt

Transport has played a large part in the growth of 150-year-old Scottish business Peacock Salt, which started  by sailing ships to operating a modern fleet of trucks.

David Craik spoke with managing director Gregorie Marshall, who is the great-great-grandson of founder J.C. Peacock about salt and its distribution.

The company spends between more than £3 million every year on transport and distribution, excluding its own vehicles, mainly utilising sub-contracted hauliers and logistic firms.

Its own fleet consists of three artics for the salt distribution work – covering only a small percentage of total distribution work – and four trucks on the turf side a mixture of Moffetts and Hiabs covering most of that service’s distribution needs.
