I’m a mum and I don’t care if my son swears – he’s only six but knows he won’t be in trouble for it
A MUM has revealed the strict rules she has when it comes to her six-year-old son using certain words.
Bunny Hedaya, from the US, revealed she was fine with her son using swear words but had six ‘normal’ words he was never allowed to say.
Taking to social media, she said: “I don’t care if my son curses and I want you to hear me out because I think is gonna be a hot take.
“But I would hope most people agree with me. Obviously, my son just doesn’t go around cursing, right? But he knows that he’s not going to get in trouble if he does.”
The mum said there was a bit difference between using swear words to show emotion ad using them to insult other people.
Drawing on the example of dropping something on the floor, Bunny explained that she doesn’t really care if her son says ‘oh s***’ because that stems from ’emotion’.
Whereas, calling someone a ‘piece of s***’ is an entirely different ballgame and has a different reaction.
Bunny then went on to reveal the six words she wouldn’t allow claiming they were too negative to be used.
She continued: “Now, the words that I don’t allow him to say are harder to implement since he’s older now…But I don’t allow it, like, if he’s on the phone and I hear these words, he’s [got to] hang up.
The mum added that these words have ‘energy‘ and the more they are used, the more you manifest negative energy around you – hence she put a ban on them.
Believe it or not, these banned words are: ‘stupid’, ‘idiot’, ‘loser’, ‘lame’ and ‘die’ or ‘kill’.
Bunny herself was even hesitant to say the last two aloud, spelling them out phonetically. In the caption, she asked: “Do you agree?”
The clip posted to her TikTok account @bunnyhedaya has since gone viral with over 528k views and 45k likes.
People who took to the comments mainly agreed with the mum’s rule on banned words.
One person wrote: “Yes. We can cuss in this house but we don’t cuss at people.”
Another commented: “I agree with your perspective on your words create your reality.”
“HATE is a big one for me,” penned a third.
One mum weighs in on banned words
“Growing up, my parents were quite strict about things we were or weren’t allowed to say. “Shut up” or “knackered” were banned, while we would never have thought of saying anything more than that.
And since becoming a mum myself, it’s something I’ve tried to instil in my children too. After being bullied at school, I know the effect words can have, and would never want my children to be responsible for hurting someone else with their words.
They know not to call anyone “stupid”, or a “loser”.
And I would never want to hear them saying “kill” or “die. In fact, even when playing video games, my 10-year-old son know not to say “die” or “kill”.
For me personally, it’s important for them to think carefully about their word choices, so I agree with having strict rules on language being used at home.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “Love this take! I don’t think you can stop someone from cursing, but you can stop them from talking down to others or themselves!”
“In my house it’s BORED. Never say bored!” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Completely agree. We allow our boys to swear as long as they are at home and use the word correctly and they are not directed at someone else.”
